Rutger de Vries, Johannes Langkamp - Estafette #2
ZINE · 2025
Estafette is a new series of four residencies and exhibitions, marking an exciting step for our platform dedicated to artists rooted in graffiti and street art. In 2025, nine artists are invited to develop and present new work.
The second edition took place at KEVN, featuring Rutger de Vries and Johannes Langkamp. During a two-week residency, the duo transformed KEVN’s exhibition spaces into open studios—creating, collaborating, exploring, and sharing their process with the public. The residency culminated in a nine-week exhibition.
In collaboration with KEVN, we created a zine that captures the energy of this second Estafette: highlighting the residency and showcasing the work produced during those two weeks.
Rutger de Vries and Johannes Langkamp are both fascinated by coincidence and unpredictability. They establish specific conditions using models, machines or installations and experiment with the potential outcomes. Take, for instance, Rutger’s Circle Sprayers: a set of five fire extinguishers filled with paint, which – through a self-designed machine – spray colorful circles on a wall. Or Johannes’s Same same, where a paint roller attached to an electric drill is shortly activated to leave traces of paint on surfaces nearby. Their work captures moments of controlled chance, where mechanical precision meets spontaneous expression. What discoveries will emerge from their collaboration? What sets them apart? And what boundaries will they push in each other’s artistic practices?
